26.06.2013: WG Meeting, Plasencia, Spain
This meeting was held jointly with the VII International Cherry Symposium (see link:
http://www.cherry2013.com), which was held at Plasencia from the 23rd to the 27th
of June 2013. This Symposium was organized by the International Society for Horticultural
Science (ISHS) and the Government of Extremadura through the Department of Horticulture
of the Research Center La Orden-Valdesequera House, and the Department of Fruits
and Vegetables of the Agrifood Technology Research Institute of Extremadura, in collaboration
with the University of Extremadura.
Our COST meeting was held at the Balneario Valle del Jerte Hotel. We are especially
thankful to Dr. Manuel Joaquín Serradilla Sánchez, one of the Symposium conveners,
and who successfully organized the COST meeting.
During this meeting, the Action Chair presented the status of the Action which was
followed by a rich discussion between participants, allowing establishing links between
working groups. It was an excellent opportunity as well to publicize our Action to
a large audience of cherry specialists coming from Europe and the main non-European
cherry producing areas in the world, such as USA, Chile, New Zealand or Australia.
Finally, we had the pleasure to listen to Dr. Nnadozie Oraguzie, sweet cherry breeder
at Washington State University, who made a presentation about QTL identification
of pedicel fruit retention force.
